Carlbooks is a used book trading site I began building during the fall of my sophomore year at Carleton. By registering, users can list their textbooks on the site. Others can search for the best deal when purchasing their books.
No inventory is handled by Carlbooks, rather an email is sent to both the buyer and seller upon purchase. The responsibility of completing the sale is no longer the responsibility of Carlbooks.
By January 2000, a compare feature had been added to the Carlbooks site. Users could now find the best textbook deal anywhere, whether it be from another local student, the college bookstore, or an online bookseller such as Amazon or Barnes and Nobles.
The site began turning a profit by the beginning of January, but selling ads was too time consuming. Carlbooks is currently in the process of being transferred to the Carleton College CSA Senate.
